Dianne Kennedy is the founder the principal consultant of
XMLXperts. Dianne Kennedy is an independent XML/SGML Publishing
Systems Consultant, current chairperson of the SAE J2008
(automotive industry) SGML Working Group, convener of WG6 ISO
12083 (standard for journal and book publishing), and editor of
the XML Files, the first XML Magazine on the Web. As a
consultant, Ms. Kennedy delivers XML tutorials and offers
management consulting, document engineering, and publishing
system design consulting services. Ms. Kennedy is also a
technical program consultant for the Graphic Communications
Association and a member of OASIS (Organization for the
Advancement of Structured Information Standards).
Formerly Ms. Kennedy served as Vice President of SGML
Operations and Consulting for ActiveSystems, Inc. As Vice
President of SGML Operations and Consulting, Dianne Kennedy was
instrumental in overseeing SGML consulting and integration
activities. In addition, Ms Kennedy was instrumental in setting
the direction of ActiveSystems SGML Object database and context
sensitive retrieval engine, known as ActiveServer and
ActiveSearch. Other responsibilities included the development of
the corporate image and development of SGML-related sales and
marketing materials.
Ms Kennedy was also formerly employed by Frame Technology (now
owned by Adobe Systems), Datalogics Division. She served as both
Director of Technical Publishing Services and CALS Program
Manager for Frame. As Director of Technical Publishing Services
at Datalogics, Dianne Kennedy directed the technical publishing
and support services division of Datalogics. This division is
responsible for the development, support, training, and
documentation of Datalogics line of technical publishing
products. This product line provides full SGML support for
bothCALS-based and commercial technical publishing products.
Datalogics Technical Publishing Environment (TPE) product, the
United Airlines Minimum Equipment List System, and most recently
the JCALS Composer projects were directed by Ms. Kennedy.
Additionally, during her tenure as Director of Technical
Publishing Services, Ms. Kennedy founded the independent SGML
consulting group knows as SGML Services.
Ms. Kennedy has been an active participant in many industry
SGML/XML standards activities. Currently she serves as
chairperson for the DTD Working Group of SAE J2008 for the
automotive industry. She also has played a vital role as a
consultant to the ATA 100 Specification SGML working group and
has served on a number of CALS standards committees as well.
Currently Ms. Kennedy formerly a columnist for <TAG>
magazine is currently editor of the XML Files Web Magazine
and is the Chicago Director for the Midwest SGML Forum.

Although Dianne Kennedy typically functions as an independent
XML consultant, through her company, XMLXperts, Dianne can bring
together a network of other independent consultants with just the
expertise which is required for any XML/SGML project. For
example, Ms. Kennedy might initially work with a customer to
develop an XML tag set design. She would then call on affiliated
consultants to provide expertise to convert word-processing data
into XML. Ms. Kennedy has a wide network of affiliated
consultants who can provide just the expertise required for any
project.

CALS Working Group
In the early years of the development of the DoD CALS
standards, Ms Kennedy brought her first hand knowledge of the
design and implementation of SGML publishing systems for the
military technical documentation environment to a number of the
CALS working groups. She participated not only in the development
of the first CALS DTDs, but provided expertise through the
development of the CALS table model which is now a standard
across a number of industries. Ms Kennedy also assisted with the
development of the CALS Output Specification.
Consultant, ATA/AIA Industry Standards
Dianne Kennedy participated as a consultant to a number of
airlines and manufacturers during the development of the SGML
specification which is now published as ATA Specification 2100.
She brought her knowledge of standards, and lessons learned
throughout the development of the CALS standards into this
industry. In 1992 Dianne Kennedy was awarded the Graphics
Communication Association's TEKKI award, which honored her
outstanding achievement in the development of SGML standards for
the Airline Industry.
Chairperson, SAE J2008 DTD Committee
Since 1993, Dianne Kennedy has served as the chairperson for
the automotive industry SGML standards committee. As chairperson,
she organizes standards activities and bears responsibility for
the development of the SGML portion of the SAE J2008
Specification.
Convenor, WG6 ISO 12083
In 1996, Ms Kennedy began working with the ISO 12083 effort.
Along with GCA, she offered initial XML tutorials to the journal
publishing community and conducted numerous industry round table
discussions focusing on the application of XML to journal and
book publishing. In 1997, Ms. Kennedy was elected convenor of ISO
12083. Currently she is leading efforts to update ISO 12083 to
meet new requirements of XML and Web publishing.
